TOURIST WILL HAVE A LONGER STAY IN
MADHYA PRADESH
In a brief interview with our Editor, Anil Sharma, Pankaj Rag, MD, Madhya Pradesh Tourism, gave an insight on the changing face of Madhya Pradesh Tourism and various forthcoming plans for its.
With India growing as a famous tourist destination
and attracting tourists from around the world, what
does Madhya Pradesh has to offer?
MP has always been an alluring tourist spot for many
years and will be for many years to come. We all know
Gwalior as famous tourist spot, but most of us are
unaware of Narwar Fort, which is near Gwalior and has
been a habitation since past 1000 years.
Even the Ras Lila Ghar in Barai, which was made by His
Highness Raja Man Singh Tomar, is known to very few.
When people tend to visit MP, they generally come in
the morning and tend to leave in the evening, but if
they come to know of Narwar or Barai, or other less
publicized destinations, they will have a longer stay
here.
Tell us more about Ras Lila Ghar.
The Ras Lila Ghar is like an open auditorium, built in the
13th century by Raja Man Singh Tomar in Barai, Gwalior.
Man Singh Tomar was very well versed with music, and
a renowned ruler. He also wrote the Man Kautuhar.
Tell us about the various tourist circuits of MP.
There is The Buddhist Circuit first, which runs from
Pola Donga, Khejaria Phoop in western MP and yes, we
all know of the Stupa in Sanchi.
We are starting a new tourist circuit called the
Narmada Parikrama Circuit, which will travel
alongwith the Narmada River.
Any new promotion technique you are using?
We have new and innovative concept of a Boat Ride
from Tawa in Khulshidabad to Madhai. It is a two and a
half-hour ride on mechanized boats where you can
have your lunch or breakfast too.
This is becoming extremely popular as from Madhai
you can go for a two hour safari and come back.
We are revamping all our hotels and even the
locations.
We are focusing on new and innovative ideas for
promoting the lesser known destinations and even
making the old ones more attractive, so that when the
tourists come to MP, they have a much longer stay.
